The ABOUT DANCE – forming futures format is intended to stimulate a discourse on the precarious (financial) situation facing dance. Starting in May, various hosts and selected participants will come together monthly, at Lake Studios Berlin. Discussions on social, political and ecological issues will be supported by artists, activists and researchers as André Lepecki Nina Power, Filipa Ramos, Julian Reid, Jana Unmüßig, and Jota Mobaca present via web tools. Mårten Spångberg will open the hybrid exchange forum. Under the heading of Ecology & Artistic Practice, all participants will then look for possible answers to the following questions: How can dance and the performing arts address the need to actively engage with the world, its injustices and suffering? And how can this work without relinquishing artistic autonomy and the importance of independent narratives and voices?
