Campaign

The annual campaign throws a spotlight on the variety of professional dance in Berlin and Potsdam.

WATCH ME DANCE 2024

Within the framework of the ERDF project "Empowering Dance", the presentation and visualization of Berlin's dance creativity as well as the bundling of dance offers and their structures in Berlin are to be strengthened. This includes, among other things, an image campaign aimed to intensify the presence of contemporary dance in cultural life and increase its public perception.

The image campaign, which has been running for many years, will take place again in the summer 2024 and is timed to coincide with the UEFA European Football Championship. It promotes the cooperation and networking of all relevant dance organizers in Berlin in order to appear together for this genre beyond aesthetic and structural differences and to present dance in Berlin effectively to the public.

Through a broad visualization of the diverse artists, the dance scene will be supported and highlighted as an innovative art form. The improved visibility of dance in Berlin achieved with the project aims to attract new audiences and to bind them sustainably to the dance sector. In 2024, the campaign will run from the beginning of June to mid-July and, with the UEFA European Men's Football Championship taking place in Berlin during this period, will take the opportunity to raise awareness of dance as an art form among a much wider audience.

The campaign is a module of “Empowering Dance”, a Tanzbüro Berlin project supported by Zeitgenössischer Tanz Berlin e.V. From 2023–2026, the project is funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and the Senate Department for Culture and Social Cohesion.

WATCH ME DANCE 2023

It's that time of year again, the next campaign for dance in Berlin will presumably take place in March 2023. We cordially invite dance artists to take part in the next edition of 'Watch Me Dance'. As in previous years, the focus will be on Berlin dance artists and thus on the diversity of the Berlin dance scene.

The campaign is a module of “Perspektive Tanz”, a Tanzbüro Berlin project supported by Zeitgenössischer Tanz Berlin e.V. From 2021–2023, the project is funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and the Senate Department for Culture and Europe.

It was in 2013 that Tanzbüro Berlin first initiated a joint dance campaign along with venues in Berlin and Potsdam. Ever since, an exclusive image campaign has been produced and run every year, actively involving venues and dancers from Berlin and Potsdam. Over a concentrated period of 4–6 weeks, public attention is drawn to the wide range of dance schemes by means of extensive marketing activities by Tanzbüro Berlin and the participating venues. The aim of this annual campaign is to get increasing numbers of audience members excited about the varied programme in Berlin and Potsdam and to give the artists an additional means of advertising their work.

On 28 October 2019, the Watch Me Dance 2019 campaign was launched at the initiative of Tanzbüro Berlin in cooperation with 28 venues in the city.

During the campaign, Watch Me Dance will be publicising Berlin as a city of dance, and promoting the professionals involved, with billboards, postcards, ads, trailers, activities and a variety of digital content on Facebook and Instagram. All over the world, Berlin is known as one of the most important cities for dance. Some 2,500 professional dancers and choreographers work here. Every year, around 30 venues and festivals in Berlin present roughly 1,400 dance performances, ranging from classical ballet to contemporary performances, from productions by young dancers in the making and inclusive projects to performances by international dance companies. Watch Me Dance has been the campaign slogan three times since 2017.

The partners of the 2019 campaign are Acker Stadt Palast, ada Studio, Akademie der Künste, Ballhaus Naunynstraße, Ballhaus Ost, Berliner Festspiele, DOCK 11 & EDEN*****, fabrik Potsdam, HALLE TANZBÜHNE BERLIN, HAU Hebbel am Ufer, Hochschulübergreifendes Zentrum Tanz Berlin, Lake Studios Berlin, Radialsystem, RambaZamba Theater, Sasha Waltz & Guests, Schaubühne am Lehniner Platz, SOPHIENSÆLE, Staatsballett Berlin, Studio laborgras, Tanz im August, Tanzfabrik Berlin, TANZKOMPLIZEN, Tatwerk Berlin | Performative Forschung, Theater Strahl Berlin, Theater Thikwa, Uferstudios für zeitgenössischen Tanz, VERLIN and VOLKSBÜHNE Berlin.

The campaign is a module of “Attention Dance II”, a Tanzbüro Berlin project supported by Zeitgenössischer Tanz Berlin e.V. From 2018–2021, the project is funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and the Senate Department for Culture and Europe.
