Module for the development of production managers and dramaturges for the independent dance scene in Berlin.

Tandem 2022

Mentoring Programm – Open Call | Deadline of Application: 14 November 2021

The tandem Stammtisch (regulars' table) is aimed at dance artists, production managers and dramaturges and offers a framework for exchanging ideas and networking on current topics of collaboration.

The regulars' table is initiated by the Tanzbüro Berlin as part of the EFRE project "Perspektive Tanz", in the tandem module, which aims to strengthen the professional fields of independent production management and (dance)dramaturgy with a professional mentoring program, among other things.

The regulars' table is led and moderated by the production managers Simone Graf and Sabine Seifert.

The two production managers will start the format with a thematic input, after which there will be an open round in which individual topics can be discussed in more depth, questions can be asked and there can be a free exchange of ideas.

First date: 5.11.2021, 15:00 - 17:30 | Location: Uferstudios Berlin, meeting point Tanzbüro

Registration: postnoSpam@tanzbuero-berlin.de

Participation in the tandem Stammtisch is intended in compliance with the 3G regulation, indoors the wearing of a mouth nose protection mask (FFP2 or medical mask) is mandatory. We are guided by the currently valid hygiene regulations of the Uferstudios.

Simone Graf worked as project manager at PACT Zollverein and as co-curator and production manager for Forecast Festival 3 at HKW. She then worked as editor and production manager for Tanz im August and then took over the editorship for the 11th Berlin Biennale and the 70th anniversary of the Berliner Festspiele. She currently works as artistic production manager for Dance On Ensemble and for freelance choreographer Claire Vivianne Sobottke.

Sabine Seifert worked as company manager for the French choreographer and dancer David Wampach. Subsequently, she was production manager at HAU Hebbel am Ufer in Berlin, responsible for the artists Ligia Lewis, Kat Válastur, Benny Claessens, among others. Since April 2021 she works for Fonds Darstellende Künste e.V. and organized among others the Bundesforum Bündnis für Freie Darstellende Künste in September 2021.

Despite the great need within the contemporary dance scene, the occupations of freelance production management and dance dramaturgy are still underdeveloped, and professionals often enter these fields through learning by doing: there are few opportunities for initial training or CPD. Conversely, many young artists do not know how to get in touch with experienced production managers or dramaturgs, or how important collaboration of this kind is for professional productions.

That is precisely where the tandem module comes in. Its aim is to support and bring together prospective production managers, dance dramaturgs and dancers/choreographers. Over a period of 6 months, the structured tandem program offers professional support and continuing professional development by experienced mentors from the fields of production management and dramaturgy.

The programme prepares budding production managers and dramaturgs for their potential duties, and enables them to work with artists to pinpoint the challenges of their chosen career and develop the best means of tackling them. The artists, meanwhile, gain a better understanding of their associates’ professions and why they need to be integrated into the overall production process. Ideally, this intensive collaboration will produce teams who will continue to work together outside the tandem programme.

Apart from the CPD programme, the Tanzbüro also organises regular Stammtisch round-table meetings four times a year, run by the artist Lea Moro, who also selects the themes discussed. These offer an opportunity for people to talk about current topics related to collaboration between artists, production managers and dramaturgs, and to network with current and former tandem participants.

If you would like to take part in the Stammtisch meetings and told when they are coming up, please e-mail post@tanzbuero-berlin to be added to the mailing list.

tandem is a module of “Attention Dance II”, a Tanzbüro Berlin project supported by Zeitgenössischer Tanz Berlin e.V. From 2018–2021, the project is funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and the Senate Department for Culture and Europe.
