Open Bodies
Brandon LaBelle creates experimental spaces of sensual perception at Ballhaus Ost
Text: Johanna Withelm
What is the impact of sound on our bodies? Based on a series of listening strategies, Brandon LaBelle’s work The Open Body creates a space in which a group of performers synchronize and listen to each other in a deep relational mode. The four-hour performance is a meditative process in which the performers’ bodies are opened to their environment and to themselves, inviting the audience into a slow and highly sensitive state of attentiveness. The performance is part of Labor Sonor, an experimental music, film and performance series.
