A Vision of Hope
A choreographic search for hope and trust
Text: Johanna Withelm
For the dance solo Estel, choreographer Elizaveta Poliakova drew inspiration from Tolkien’s mythology in her exploration of the concept of hope. In the fictional language Sindarin, the language of the elves, the word ’Estel’ stands for an idea of hope and deep trust that is independent from external circumstances and that is invincible. With a multidimensional choreographic approach between dance, sculpture and video art, the dancer’s solo embarks with the audience on a journey through emotional landscapes of hope, and through physical states ranging from despair and rage to ultimate harmony.
