Together ... Live?

The PURPLE festival can’t celebrate its sixth edition

The PURPLE International Dance Festival for Young Audiences has been attracting spectators aged 3 and up every January since 2017. In 2021, the event was moved to August due to the pandemic. This year, the usual event date was on too shaky ground again – another cancelation. It‘s a crying shame in view of the aesthetically diverse program. For example, Janine Harrington was planning a kaleidoscopic live installation to kick off the festival. In “Screensaver Series,” the British choreographer creates a kind of living screensaver program com- posed of human bodies. In this piece, attention is investigated as a form of active inactivity. Also liberatingly non-digital is „with”, a performance from Belgium in which Ayelen Parolin would have encouraged the audience to laugh together in co-presence. In addition to international guests, local artists were invited, as always. Choeographer Felix Marchand, for example, dedicates himself to the sunny side of failure with “Von Anfang an” (“From the Beginning“). Since he is from Berlin he will be able to do so in January, when his production is shown by TANZKOMPLIZEN. (cm)
