Igniting Dance Enthusiasm
PURPLE International Dance Festival returns for its eighth year
Aiming to get children and young people excited about dance and make them curious about contemporary performances, the international dance festival PURPLE will be presenting contemporary dance productions for a young audience for the 8th year running. Works from Belgium, France, Great Britain, Ireland, the Netherlands, Austria and Germany will be presented with themes such as the search for belonging and home, living as an outsider and the playful questioning of hierarchies and rules. The festival will open on January 20 at HAU Hebbel am Ufer (HAU 1) with Chotto Desh by the Akram Khan Company from London and a mixture of Indian and contemporary dance, spoken text, dreamlike animations and magical images. In addition to the stage program, talk formats and free workshops for school classes as well as dance workshops for children and young people will be offered on the weekends. (jw)
