Fulfillment Of A Long Wait
The world premiere of Sasha Waltz & Guests at the Staatsoper
For two years, the premiere of Sasha Waltz & Guests’ collaboration with contemporary composer Friedrich Haas had to be postponed. In mid-March, “SYM-PHONIE MMXX,” the latest work of the choreographer, danced by her ensemble and commissioned by the Staatsballett Berlin, will finally celebrate its premiere at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden. “SYM-PHONIE MMXX” is, after numerous operas, Haas’ first ballet music, performed by the Staatskapelle Berlin with a large symphonic cast. Haas has based his compositions on a venture: He creates New Music that is expressive and melodious at the same time. In “SYM-PHONIE MMXX”, choreography and music enter into a dialogue in which the dance first unfolds the musical potential, and the physical language of the dancers first brings the music to light. The interplay of contemporary music, dance and visual art creates a stage work that ultimately thrives on Haas’ expressive soundscapes. (fk)
