Dance and Identity
A Cameroonian-German Dance Production by Blick Bassy at the Humboldtforum
The Cameroonian musician, author and director Blick Bassy will be presenting his production BIKUTSI 3000, originally developed for the Museé du Quai Branly in Paris, at the Humboldtforum. Based on the tradition of Bikutsi, a Cameroonian music and dance form, the piece is a performance consisting of dance, video narration, and historical film footage from French archives, including music. BIKUTSI 3000 is an attempt at an Afrofuturistic narrative exploring the power of dance, and a reflection on identity and cultural roots. The performance includes both the Pan-African version with dancers from Cameroon (Dec. 7 – 10) and a new version developed with dancers from Berlin (Dec. 14 – 17). (jw)
