Who can apply?
The residency is open-ended and interdisciplinary and will take place for the second time in 2024. The program is primarily aimed at artists on the threshold of professionalism from the fields of performance, dance, media art and music who have an address in germany. We can offer 6 people a place in the residency. So you can apply alone, in pairs or a maximum of three. We would like to invite a total of 3 different artistic positions. During the residency, the invited artists will share the space. In addition, the resident artists should engage artistically with the location / the surroundings / the region. It is up to the respective artists to decide exactly how they relate to the region.
Procedure of the residency
After your arrival, we will make you a suggestion for room allocation and show you the house and what to look out for. On one of the first days, we will bring you together with the sponsors and then hand over the house to you.
At the end of the three-week residency, there will be a showing at which the residents will present their work. This could be a sketch for a composition, a research stand, an experimental set-up or even a short choreography.
Accessibility
Like many cultural venues, the Kunsthaus Helleweg is also in the process of making low-barrier access possible. We are aware that there are various challenges for people to apply for and take part in the residency. Please let us know your access needs and/or access riders. We are always available for queries at info.kunsthaus@web.de. Write to us and we will clarify your individual requirements with you. We are constantly updating our website and can offer individual location descriptions or video tours if required. The house has two floors, the top floor of which is only accessible via a staircase. The kitchen, living room, bathroom and other bedrooms on the first floor are at ground level. Unfortunately, the house does not have disabled-accessible sanitary facilities.
It is possible to bring assistance dogs and assistants. Unfortunately, we cannot offer childcare. However, we can discuss the possibility of bringing children.
As it is not possible to get to the front door of the house by public transport, we will organize additional transport.

The house
The house has 5-6 bedrooms, a kitchen, two bathrooms, a fireplace room, a tool shed and an attic (only partially usable). The area of the property is 2900m² - hence the name of the residence program. There is a music studio with basic technical equipment and a small rehearsal room in the garage with a dance floor. There are also movable floor mats that can be used outside. There is basic technical equipment that you can use. Please get in touch if you have specific questions. We may be able to hire technical equipment for shorter periods.
What the residence offers
The residency offers a concentrated working atmosphere away from the big cities. We offer you sleeping facilities and workspaces in the Kunsthaus Helleweg. We can pay a flat-rate expense allowance of 1,500€ per person for the three-week residency. We will also cover the travel costs for the outward and return journey to Kunsthaus Helleweg; further travel costs may be covered by arrangement. You must pay for your own meals.
Sponsorship program
There is a mentorship program with people from Bockhorst and Versmold, so that you have contact persons during the residency. We can discuss how you use the sponsorship program individually. It is possible to use the program to find conversation partners in the area, tips for excursions, small transport services or contacts to other spaces (e.g. church, art gallery) in the region.
Selection procedure
A curation committee consisting of members of Kunsthaus Helleweg e.V., the artistic director of the residency and people from Versmold will decide on the invited residents.
