Fueling the Change
The Emerging Change Dance Festival expands to multiple venues
The four-week, multi-venue Emerging Change Dance Festival aims to create a space for emerging queer, trans, Black, Indigenous and People of Color artists and allies in order to resist tokenism and structural racism in dance. The curators Nara Virgens and Makisig Akin want to promote mentoring and dialog and establish a care-based work culture with a focus on accessibility, mental health and sustainability. The result is a diverse program with performances, workshops, community talks and more. The program includes artists such as Makisig Akin & Anya Cloud / The Love Makers Company, femBlack Performance Collective, Zem*u Huber, Virginnia Krämer & Isabel Kwarteng, Djibril Sall, Elvan Tekin, ShahrZad, and many more.
