Florentina Holzinger’s new Production at the Volksbühne
Berlin is looking forward to the star choreographer’s new production: in A Year Without Summer, Florentina Holzinger and 27 performers create a radical vision of artificial life. The work is inspired by Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein and the historic climate catastrophe of 1816 – an unusually cold year that went down in history as the misery year “Eighteen Hundred and Frozen”. The body itself becomes a field of experimentation in the fight against nature and the pursuit of immortality. Between force of nature and perversion, the performance challenges the limits of human control and leads the audience into a dystopian world in which nature is no longer tamed but recreated – with uncertain consequences.
