Dance of the Mangroves

Deborah Colker's Stage Show about the Life of the River
In Cão Sem Plumas (Dog Without Feathers), award-winning Brazilian choreographer Deborah Colker presents the eponymous poem by João Cabral de Melo Neto live on stage. With 15 dancers, she creates a powerful homage to the Capibaribe River and the mangrove landscape of Pernambuco. The show combines virtuoso dance techniques with the “wildness” of nature, with the dancers combining traditional Brazilian dances, acrobatics and modern dance styles. Cão Sem Plumas is a large-scale dance production dealing with the vulnerability of a unique landscape, while also touching on universal questions of environmental destruction and cultural identity. The world premiere took place in Recife, Brazil, in 2017. Since then, the production has been touring internationally and is now coming to Berlin for the first time. (jw)
