An Intimate Solo Work by Ashley Temba at Ballhaus Naunynstraße

With a dance solo as part of the portrait performance series at Ballhaus Naunynstraße, Ashley Temba embarks on a dance-based search for traces of the self – multi-layered, contradictory and in motion. Already familiar from Flight of the Canaries (2023, directed by Bishop Black), the dancer and choreographer now utilizes dance as a medium for self-examination – transcending role profiles, expectations and attributions. What do you see when you look at yourself - and what do others see? In a choreographic journey, Temba produces a self-portrait that is shaped by fractures, diverse experiences and permanent movement. The portrait performance series is an invitation to artists to present themselves and their art – radically personal, multi-layered and physically direct. (jw)
