Berlin is #unkürzbar - redistribution now!

Date: February 22, 2025 | 2pm | Rotes Rathaus (Neptunbrunnen)

Demonstration against the Berlin Senate's policy of cuts

THE BERLIN SENATE'S CUTBACK POLICY IS JEOPARDIZING SOCIAL COHESION IN OUR CITY.

Social institutions and projects are being forced to close, creative artists are losing their spaces and funding, universities are being bled dry, the transport transition and climate protection are being slowed down. Without any discussion with those affected, the Berlin Senate pushed through massive cuts last year. Opportunities for the state of Berlin to make additional money available as part of the so-called debt brake were not used. For us, the debate about the cuts is not over. Many institutions and projects are now fighting for their survival or have to cut back on their services. And the cuts are set to continue. The Senate has announced further cuts of 2 billion euros for next year. We must take action against this now. We reject the policy of cuts.

We do not accept the lack of alternatives with which the cuts are presented to us. Germany is a rich country. We demand solidarity-based funding for our cultural and social institutions, education and science, as well as the transport transition and climate protection. The finances of the state of Berlin as well as the finances of the districts have been bled dry for decades by a wrong tax policy. We demand redistribution now.

On February 22, we will take to the streets together against the policy of cuts and for solidarity-based financing of our city. We will not be played off against each other. Only together are we strong!

A broad alliance of grassroots initiatives, trade unions, associations and affected institutions and projects is calling for the demonstration.
