Dance Action Day: Strong Performance in Front of the Brandenburg Gate

on September 13, 2024

In the political heart of Berlin, September 13 saw numerous dance artists make a stand against cuts and for the democratic power of culture. Initiated by the Dachverband Tanz Deutschland with Bureau Ritter and Joint Adventures / NPN, the action day Dance Creates Cohesion was supported by many associations and unions across all genres of art and culture. Supported loudly by a large number of Berlin-based dancemakers, the choreographer Jule Flierl drew attention to dance’s precarious situation in a fiery speech during the rally. Her contribution was initiated by the Zeitgenössischer Tanz Berlin (ZTB) association, which played a major role in mobilising Berlin’s dance scene on the day and provided participants with creative banners and chants. The rally was accompanied by a programme of performances, presentations and talks. Dance interventions got onlookers moving. All participants took a clear stance against exclusion, racism and discrimination.
